A joint-family home planned around shared and private zones rather than simply adding more rooms.
The brief
Three generations of one family needed to share a single home without any generation feeling like it had given up privacy for the sake of the others.
Our approach
The plan was zoned rather than partitioned — shared living and dining spaces at the center, private wings for each generation branching off it, with orientation and cross ventilation carried through from the studio's institutional and commercial work at a domestic scale.
Outcome
The family has occupied the house since 2022 with no post-occupancy layout changes requested — the zoning held up against how they actually live.
