Designing a home for a joint family without losing privacy
A multigenerational home brief isn't solved by adding more rooms — it's solved by zoning which spaces are shared and which are private, and how the two connect.
The instinct in a joint-family brief is often to just add square footage — another bedroom, another sitting room — until everyone technically has space. That usually produces a house that's larger without actually being more comfortable to share.
Zoning solves the same problem differently: shared spaces (kitchen, dining, a central living area) sit at the heart of the plan, with private wings for each generation branching off it, so families can gather easily and retreat easily, without one compromising the other.
On Sector 9 Residence, that zoning was set before any room sizes were finalized, and it's the reason the family hasn't asked to change the layout since moving in.
